A Chronic
Yeast Infection Primer
A yeast infection is given the medical name
candidiasis and is caused by the fungus candida albicans.
A chronic yeast infection is one in which the infection
occurs on a regular basis. A yeast infection can affect
both men and women and is common to have symptoms around
the genital area, although other parts of the body can
also be affected. This is because the fungal infection
grows rapidly in moist, dark places on the body. Since
yeast is found inside the body too, a chronic yeast
infection can also take the form of a systemic problem.
With the correct medication or natural remedies chronic
yeast infection can easily be treated. The big problem
when dealing with chronic yeast infection is the
non-compliance with medicine dosage and timetables as well
as being proactive in terms of a healthy diet and
lifestyle.
What Are The Causes of Chronic Yeast
Infection?
A chronic yeast
infection is no different when it comes to causes than
simple yeast infection. The reason why infection occurs
on a regular basis may be due to a lack of maintenance of
the area where the yeast infection regularly occurs. One
main reason for this is due to a lack of hygiene and
keeping up with a red lamenting its programme. Keeping
the body dry and clean can be a challenge especially in
today's hectic lifestyle. Chronic yeast infection tends
to occur in those that are stressed, using regular
amounts of antibiotics and wear tight fitting and
unsuitable clothing materials. This would cause candida
to increase in numbers rapidly.
A weak immune
system due to readily use of steroids or antibacterial
drugs, leads to chronic yeast infection since the immune
system cannot deal with an increase in the levels of
candida albicans. Antibiotics destroy the good bacteria
such as Lactobacillus acidophilus which help maintain a
low level of micro-organisms such as candida. The use of
over the counter medication they managed to suppress the
yeast infection symptoms, however chronic yeast infection
occurs because of constant use of antibiotics coupled
with certain lifestyle choices.
How Do I Treat a Chronic Yeast
Infection?
Even though the
symptoms are the same for both in general yeast infection
and chronic yeast infection, the treatment can differ.
Usually, over the counter ointments and creams can be
used successfully treated symptoms. However, in chronic
yeast infection problems, the use of stronger
antimycotics may become necessary. These are anti fungal
drugs are very specific in treating chronic yeast
infections. They may be topically applied or taken
orally. The systemic nature of such medication means that
the side effects are also greater. Because of the direct
contact with the fungus that antimycotics have the are
usually more successful than antibacterial medication
alone.
If you are
suffering from chronic yeast infection then you should
take a pragmatic multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
This will include using prescribed medication such as
antimycotics or antibiotics as suggested by a Doctor.
However, the treatment does not stop there. Chronic yeast
infection should also be treated from the root cause.
This should include a balanced diet and lifestyle with
regular exercise, whole fruits and vegetables, low yeast,
low sugar and low fat. Additionally, one would need to
take pre-emptive steps to reduce or stop chronic yeast
infection from reoccurring. This would include, for
example, wearing cotton panties, non-tight fitting
clothes and ensuring that your body is kept as dry as
possible at all times.
