A Yeast
Infection Symptoms Guide
Although a
yeast infection on its own is not life-threatening nor
debilitating, they can be very irritating and over a
prolonged period can give rise to depression, anxiety and
an overall lack of self-confidence. Getting to grips with
yeast infection symptoms, would help women and men to deal
with it in a more informed manner, by learning to spot
them early.
Yeast Infection Symptoms
There are a host of vaginal infections yet
most of them tend to have similar symptoms. Candida albicans is
the cause of yeast infection and is present even in healthy
human bodies. However with a change in the environment such as
a decrease in natural levels of human Lactobacillus yeast cells
would be given the opportunity to multiply to levels that are
out of control. It is possible to control this overgrowth with
the help of medication.
Some of the most common candida yeast
infection symptoms include:
-
Vaginal discharge:
usually a thick discharge with a whitish or yellow
tinge that resembles cottage cheese with a foul odour.
It is important to note that not all women will suffer
from a discharge.
-
Itching of the
vaginal area and soreness.
-
Pain, or discomfort,
during sexual intercourse (superficial
dyspareunia)
-
Pain, or discomfort
during urination (dysuria) may be
present.
-
Getting sick with or
without fever is another yeast infection symptom, which
can on occasion spread to the brain causing major
change in mental behaviour and
functioning.
Itching around the vaginal area and general
soreness is the easiest way to identify a infection as this is
probably the most common yeast infection symptom. For pain
during urination or sexual intercourse paying close attention
to both the ending and starting points of the pain one may be
able to distinguish from urinary tract infection and yeast
infection. In all cases if this is the first experience of such
symptoms, it is advisable to see a doctor to avoid the
possibility of misdiagnosis.
Oral Yeast Infection Symptoms
In both males and females, adults and infants
an infection can occur in the mouth region. In such cases there
may be different yeast infection symptoms which one can notice.
The tongue would become inflamed and sore, making it difficult
to eat and swallow. There may also be a thick patch, sometimes
white in colour, on top of the palate of the tongue or anywhere
inside the mouth which cannot be cleaned easily. In such cases
of people suffering with thrush it is important not to become
dehydrated.

Immunodeficiency & Yeast Infection
Symptoms
For those suffering from HIV or AIDS, yeast
infection symptoms can be far worse. This is because of the
immune system being unable to fight off foreign bodies and
control the multiplication of foreign bacteria as well as those
with healthy immune systems. In such cases the thrush can
extend through the oesophagus down to the stomach and can
create painful ulcers making it difficult to swallow and
eventually eat properly.
In more than 25% of men and women, these
infection symptoms can be a re-occurring problem with more than
two infection per year. Such chronic yeast infection symptoms
can indicate an underlying medical condition for which an
aggressive approach and possible treatment may be required. It
is often the case that common yeast infection symptoms can be
treated by using anti fungal creams or medications. Doctors
usually prefer to treat infection using suppositories or
vaginal tablets however it has been suggested that treatments
and avoiding medication may actually be more beneficial to
avoiding chronic yeast infection.
